Frequently asked questions

Choosing someone to support you is an important decision

To help you decide if you would like to work together, we have included some answers to the most common questions people have when considering therapy, mediation or consultation with us.

1How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision. Therapy is only as effective as the relationship between therapist and client, thus the best way to determine if a psychotherapist is right for you is to book a session and/or schedule a phone consultation, and meet with that person to see how you feel. Do you feel safe and comfortable? Do they seem knowledgeable and experienced? Do they “get” you?
2What kind of clients do you work with?
I work with individuals, couples, families and adolescents of all different identities and ethnicities from all over the world, Many of my adult clients are professionals and I also work extensively with teenagers and young adults. I support adults and families through the divorce process, and help parents become fantastic coparents. See more on my services pages.
3How long will therapy last?
The duration of therapy is different for every person. Sometimes 6-months does the trick after an acute stressor like a break-up or loss of loved one, other times changing deeply-rooted patterns and beliefs may take longer. On average, I see my clients for a minimum of 12 months. During the process, you and I will assess your progress together and have open dialogue about your personal therapeutic duration.
4Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance. I take a variety of forms of payments including cash, check, PayPal, Venmo, and credit cards. Upon your request, I will issue you a superbly you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement, however that is to be determined between you and your insurance carrier. I can have a flexible fee-scale for those who demonstrate the need.
5What are your fees?
Because my fees vary for different services, please call to learn more about my fees.
6What kind of therapist are you?
I approach the psychotherapeutic process with an open mind and begin right where my client is. I work to create a safe and welcoming environment where, for 50-90 minutes each week, we explore exactly what you need to transform behaviors, thought-patterns and relationships that may be holding you back from being your best self. My style is warm, interactive, direct and action-oriented. I expect you to put work into your process and will hold you responsible for your parts, as I will be responsible for mine. I combine science, physiology, psychology and developmental theory into our conversations to provide education to enable you to understand the mechanism of change as you move forward to ensure lasting results and tools to last a lifetime.
7What is divorce support?
Divorce support can be different depending on your unique situation. The basics include sitting with the couple and hearing where they are in their process and helping them determine the next steps. We will connect them with resources such as attorneys we trust, financial experts, and psychotherapists if necessary. If there are children involved, we can help them craft realistic child sharing plans based on their family’s needs. We will provide emotional support and therapy unique to the divorce process and beyond.
8What is parenting education?

Parenting education is just what it sounds like: educating people who have children to be the best parents they can be. This can take place anywhere from one-on-one in an office setting, to presentations to larger groups. Parents are guaranteed to understand more about themselves and their children and become more confident parents based on recent scientific information, developmental ages and stages, Bond-Strengthening communication skills and practical tools to use with kids of all ages. Additionally, parents can benefit from coparenting education to become more cohesive with their parenting styles to reduce conflict and confusion in their families.

Co-parenting education creates the same results, and can benefit families who are experiencing separation, divorce or change in the family system. Both parents can receive information and techniques to support the children through a transitional time, by using techniques to reassure children of their emotional safety through Bond-Strengthening communication and systems.

9What is family consultation?

A family consultant is a trained parenting expert. Consultants can be certified parenting educators, therapists, psychologists, child development specialists or certified coaches.

As family consultants, we look at your family as a whole and observe behavioral dynamics of all members involved. We usually meet family members and target specific dynamics to be corrected. We help the families establish different behaviors. Some consultants work directly with children and some concentrate on the parents. At Solutions in Parenting we do both. Many consultants are trained to recognize deeper issues within a family system and can work with other professionals in the community, such as therapists, psychologists, teachers, ministers to form a united effort in helping the family thrive.

Most consultants offer a chance to speak on the phone, at no or minimal cost, so you may decide if that consultant is right for you. Don’t be afraid to ask about the person’s qualifications, experience and professional philosophy. They should be willing to answer all of your questions.

Deciding to hire a family consultant may be one of the most important decisions you can ever make for your family. Research your options and find the one who fits your family's needs the best.

You will have access to attorneys, financial experts, divorce support therapists and child specialists all trained in the collaborative process.
